our values
Our commitment to you is complete transparency around how we create our products. Our goal is always to do more good than harm and to prioritize people and the planet throughout every step in our supply chain.
human rights
We believe that all people deserve to earn a living wage and to work in a safe environment. Working with factories in Toronto, Ontario means that we are able to build relationships with our partners and feel confident in the conditions and circumstances in which everyone in our supply chain are working.
sustainability
first threads' fabric is ethically knit in Toronto, Ontario using 100% Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified organic cotton. We use non-toxic, low impact dyes that minimize both the environmental impact and possible reactivity with children's skin.
We do not use plastic packaging for shipping or receiving our products. Our tissue, mailers, and hang tags are made from recycled products, and all can be composted or recycled.
first threads' styles are thoughtfully chosen to be gender-neutral, functional for real kid wear, and timeless. Our sizing is generous so items can be worn for a long time and our garments are durable so they can be passed down to siblings and friends.
fair pricing
We recognize that our products may cost more than you are used to seeing for children's wear. Because of our ethical standards, the manufacturing cost is higher. In order to keep our product as accessible as possible, we use a mark up of approximately 2X the production cost as opposed to the 5-10X mark-up that is typically seen in traditional fast fashion brands.
integrity
Our integrity holds us accountable to our values and guides all of our business decisions.
